Babine Counselling
I enjoy working with people who experience mood difficulties (depression, anxiety, stress, or bipolar), relationship difficulties (including couples and parent-child), who feel stuck in some pattern of behaviour or feeling, and are curious about how to move forward. I am a graduate of The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy Training under Ellyn Bader Ph.D. at The Couples Institute. To strengthen my effectiveness in this area, I continue to participate in their advanced training group. I try to help clients establish and achieve, measurable goals for change through encouraging greater understanding and awareness of how they see themselves, others and the world around them. I teach teaching practical skills to alleviate distress, strengthen a personal sense of security and efficacy, and affirm personal boundaries in developing and changing relationships. I also encourage and support healthy lifestyle change as an integrated part of my counselling practice. Various theories may be applied to practice, including attachment theory, developmental model, cognitive behavioural (CBT), mindfulness, person-centred and self-regulation. Recent developments in neuroscience have provided us with greater understanding of how the brain develops, learns, responds to trauma and emotional distress, so clients can expect to learn more about this!
